THE LA THE LA THE LA FONTAINES….the deafening chant that announces the arrival onstage of one of Scotland’s most exciting and original bands onto one of the worlds most famous stages… The LaFontaines are home…..

‘The Common’ problem is the second album from the Scottish hip hop popsters it follows hotly on the heels of ‘Class’ where they set the bar high…. ‘The Common Problem’ is a magnificent piece of work that destroys any fears of the dreaded second album failure!!
Opening for the Fonts tonight are Cumbernauld’s very own ’The Dykeenies’ who ten years ago were riding the wave of Scottish pop success…their brand of melodic guitar led pop is the perfect first course for a feast of Scottish talent.
Bang on time the Fonts are led on stage by gutarist Darren who wears a smile as wide as the Clyde…… the charismatic singer Kerr is last to arrive onstage…a stage dominated by a large scaffold structure emulating new album cover ‘CP’...
The band explode into their set with ‘Slow Elvis’ from their debut album ‘Class’, these guys are on fire and are as tight as pipe band snare drum…. A plethora of photographers fall over each other following Kerr about the stage!! Next in rapid succession is ‘Junior Dragon, again from ‘Class’… The set is now dominated by songs from ‘Common Problem’ with ‘Release The Hounds’ being a particular highlight and the Barra’s famed sprung dance floor is now been tested to the limit, from front to back the hall is jumping…laterally!
The humidity is now comparable to a sauna with the air thick with sweat. Drummer Jamie hidden away by the stage props takes on singing duties for the choruses of ‘What Do I Know’…in is own right he is an excellent singer and once was a regular busker on the streets of Scotland’s scariest town….Wishaw!!
‘Asleep’ brings the set to a thundering close before they are summoned back on stage by a very noisy crowd to play ‘King’, ‘Shark In The Water’ and finishing with the brilliant ‘Under A Storm’… A great gig from a great band but in this case the crowd are the stars of the show……10/10
