With sell-out shows like this, it's clear that Catfish and the Bottlemen's global appeal is continuing to soar
Catfish and the Bottlemen are already one of the UK’s biggest bands, but their latest US tour suggests that their gargantuan appeal is soaring worldwide.
Van McCann and the band played a sell-out show on Saturday at New York’s Brooklyn Steel, a large venue that proves just how clearly they’ve arrived in the States.
Dressed in their usual black, they took to the stage to one of the loudest roars we’ve ever heard from their fans, many of which – especially at the front – were teenage girls.
But their indie rock isn’t just the usual fangirl fare, and with their second album The Ride now nearly a year old, their brand has gone global.
The fans in attendance screamed every song so loud that they almost drowned out Van, from opener Homesick to closer Tyrants.
Van McCann also played a couple of tracks solo, giving the band a breather, during a set that included favourites Kathleen, Cocoon and Soundcheck.
The support in Brooklyn came from The Worn Flints, a band little-known in the UK but familiar enough to get the crowd singing along to their hair-flipping rock.
Catfish and the Bottlemen are back in the UK next month for Isle of Wight Festival, followed by a spot as headliners of the first ever Community Festival on 1 July.
