DAN CROLL MAKES A RETURN TO MUSIC SCENE AFTER THREE-YEAR BREAK FROM SUCESFUL DEBUT ALBUM
Dan Croll graced a pack out Stereo Café Bar gig in Glasgow for show making his live come back for his second upcoming studio album release ‘Emerging Adulthood’. Kicking off his UK Tour in style as expected it was a wonderful night. As a graduate of The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, the Newcastle-born singer-songwriter has transpired to be an incredible talent.
His critically lauded 2014 debut album ‘Sweet Disarray’ showed he has no intention of sticking to one genre. His aim, his own words, is “to approach pop from an unusual angle”, and that’s exactly what he does, and displayed so well here in Glasgow tonight. He has a great ability to write razor-sharp, heart-on-sleeve lyrics and pair them joyfully, infectious rhythms. All his songs are upbeat indie-pop filled with catch hooks, which seem to just get better and better.
Outlya opened the night up, the London based upcoming band who used to be called ‘Port-Isla’ made up of Lead singer and keyboardist ‘William ‘Will’ Bloomfield’, ‘ bassist and backing vocals ‘Williem Olenski’ and drummer and backing vocalist ‘Henry Kilmister’. Outlya are new update and modern version to their previous band ‘Port-Island’ the music sounds similar, the band were performing their singles ‘Higher’, 'The Light', and their most recent single ‘Heaven’, as well as performing another tracks off their upcoming debut studio album release which the crowd waiting for Dan Croll were up for listening.
Outlya are out performing with Dan Croll on several dates of his UK Tour this month and Outyla are also set performing at Dot To Dot festival in England including sets at Barn On The Farm, Latitude, Standon Calling, Y NOT?, Kendal Calling, Reading and Leeds festivals across the UK and also spot at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany in September. We except big things from Outyla and wish them all the best.
Then finally Dan Croll takes to the stage, his set consisted of a mix of the old and the new, interspersed with Dan’s charming conversations with audience. This man is definitely a crowd pleaser. Dan kicked off his set with his brand new single ‘Away From Today’ which is latest off his upcoming new album release. His also included songs of ‘Sweet Disarray’, including ‘Thinkin Aboutchu’, ‘Compliment Your Soul’, and ‘Home’, along with a bunch of fresh numbers including ‘One Of Us’ and the current new single ‘Swim’, which although we felt we waited forever for it be released, is a perfect piece of electro-indie-pop and even made Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1. The crowd happily sang and danced along to each song throughout the evening. Following the main set, Dan (and his very talented band) disappeared, and then re-emerged back on stage to give many enthusiastic fans a couple last song’s an encore of ‘From Nowhere’ and also from his debut album.
In recent years, Dan has had some huge opportunities to support the likes of Bastille, Haim and Imagine Dragons and most recently around Europe with Daughter. With an eagerly anticipated new album planned for release on Communion Records in July 2017, it’s a very exciting time to be a Dan Croll fan – or to catch up and become one. Keep watching it will be worth it.
