DMA’sLethal BizzleBlack HoneyThe Magic GangHoneyblood and Jaws are also among the vast swathe of names to be confirmed so far.

Billed as “Newcastle’s biggest inner city music festival”, the participating venues include the O2 Academy Newcastle, night club Digital and cult venue Think Tank? as well as a number of less traditional venues.

Hit The North is the latest attempt in the north-east to launch a festival featuring major bands, after a number of failures in recent years.

The ambitious Down To The Woods Festival was cancelled last year, and a few years ago the farcical Ignition Festival also never took place.

Hit The North is a metropolitan festival in one of the largest cities to not yet have one, and runs the day before Live at Leeds, sharing a number of its bands.

Headliners Slaves seem to be playing everywhere this year, while one more “huge” announcement is also promised to follow.
