How Long Does it Take to Tune a Piano

Tuning a piano is not an arduous task that should take lots of your time. However, it depends on the kind of technician or piano tuner you have given your piano to tune for you. Does the piano tuner just have an idea of piano tuning? Is the piano tuner still a learner at piano tuning? Is the piano technician a professional at piano tuning? The answer to these will tell exactly how long it will take before your piano gets back to you tuned.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TUNE A PIANO

Tunning a piano requires a great amount of concentration and of course, a very skilled piano tuner to tune your piano especially for an acoustic piano. Most pianos tune longer than some others depending on models. You will only add more problems to your piano trying to fix it yourself without knowing much or giving it to some unskilled piano technicians to get your piano tuned.

If you have given your piano to qualified piano technicians or some set of good piano tuners, whether using an electronic tuning or tuning fork, your piano should not take more than an hour and a half before it gets tuned. In case of unexpected confirmation, it should take at most two hours to finish the lot.

If it is a sharp piano, it will need the piano sounds or pitch correction where the technicians or piano tuners tune the pitch of the piano to a level of A440 calculated at A around middle C in order to shape the actual bearing on the soundboard. Followed by this is fine-tuning the piano which takes most of the time for tuning a piano especially for a grand piano. It might take up to an hour or more itself but can not take as much as two hours for good tuning stability.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TUNE A PIANO

For an upright Piano from good piano manufacturers, the technician can take less time tuning the piano. This does not mean that he is unskilled, it only means your piano is in good shape. Hence, a lesser time could be taken in the tuning of a piano. Moreover, it can also depend on how often you tune your piano or when last you have had your piano tuned. If you have not tuned your piano for more than a year and the technician takes more time than required, it can only mean your piano has a lot to do on it and the technician is doing his job. So, you do not have to be tensed if your technician takes more than two hours. More reason you should tune your piano at least twice per year.

IS A PIANO EASY TO TUNE

The basic instruments needed to tune a piano are the Turning Lever and the Electronic Chromatic. Of course, if you do not know do usage of these instruments, there is no way you can tune the piano. I would not say it’s easy to tune until you critically learn how to tune the piano.

CAN PIANISTS TUNE THEIR PIANOS

Most pianists have more than one piano. So when a piano needs tuning, they do not find it difficult to pay qualified technicians or piano tuners to tune their piano as they are probably busy with work on other pianos. However, some pianists know how to perfectly tune their pianos and they believe; why waste money when I can do it myself? So they end up tuning their piano. More pressure, more details, and proper care aren’t given to the essentials especially when pianos go out of tune in the long run.

IN CONCLUSION

Some pianists know a lot about the piano but can not tune their piano. They probably do not even attempt tuning it so they give it out to technicians or piano tuners to tune for them. The best way is to tune the piano regularly without minding the tuning cost. Regular tuning will enhance less string tension, avoid temperature fluctuations, pitch correction, and leave it at the same pitch.
